How to Analyze Trading Signals

Learn to evaluate creators using win rate, profit factor, drawdown, and other key performance metrics.

5 min readUpdated 2026-04-09

Choosing a creator is closer to hiring a coach than buying a lottery ticket. You want steady results, clear risk, and honest loss records. On SignalFloor, finished trades are public, so you can compare win rate, profit factor, drawdown, and trade length before you subscribe to live ideas. Take notes as you browse so patterns stand out. Compare at least three profiles first.

Start with metrics that survive marketing hype. Profit factor shows whether wins outweigh losses. Drawdown shows the worst peak-to-trough drop. Trade duration tells you if you can realistically follow during your workday. Use the red and green flags below as a checklist, then read the sample signal to see how entry, stop, and target fit together. Revisit these metrics monthly as markets change.

Key Performance Metrics

  • Win Rate

Share of trades that closed with a profit

    60%+
    Excellent
    50–60%
    Good
    40–50%
    Average
    <40%
    Poor

Win rate alone is not enough. A forty percent win rate can beat sixty percent if gains are larger than losses.

  • Profit Factor

Ratio of gross profit to gross loss

    2.0+
    Excellent
    1.5–2.0
    Good
    1.0–1.5
    Marginal
    <1.0
    Losing

Profit factor is total wins divided by total losses. Above one point five is often solid.

  • Maximum Drawdown

    Largest peak-to-trough decline in account

    <15%
    Conservative
    15–25%
    Moderate
    25–40%
    Aggressive
    >40%
    High Risk

Lower drawdown means more stable performance.

  • Average Trade Duration

How long positions are typically held

    Scalping
    Minutes–hours
    Day Trading
    Hours–EOD
    Swing
    Days–weeks
    Position
    Weeks–months

Match creator trading style to your availability.

Frequently asked questions

How much history should a creator have before I follow them?
Aim for at least six months of closed trades. A shorter run can look excellent purely because the market suited one style. Six months usually covers a trending stretch and a choppy one, so you can see whether the edge survives both. Check that trades are spread across those months rather than clustered into one lucky week.
Is a high win rate on its own a good sign?
No. A creator can win nine trades out of ten and still lose money if the tenth loss is larger than the nine wins combined. Read win rate next to profit factor and average risk-reward. A forty percent win rate with a 1:3 payoff is usually healthier than an eighty percent win rate with tiny targets and a distant stop.
How much drawdown is too much?
That depends on what you can sit through without abandoning the plan. The number that matters is not the creator's worst drawdown but whether you would have kept following through it. If a twenty percent peak-to-trough drop would make you quit, a creator who has had one will not work for you no matter how good the annual return looks.
Can a creator delete their losing trades?
No. Every signal is timestamped when it is posted and its outcome is recorded against market data, so losses stay on the public record. That is the reason on-platform history is worth more than screenshots from a chat group, where only the winners tend to get shared.
